Q3 — Teva Pharmaceutical Industries

What do the state attorneys general allege about Teva?

A coalition of 40-plus states filed in 2019 naming Teva as lead defendant, alleging coordinated price increases of over 1,000% on some drugs, arranged through industry dinners and golf outings, with executives using phrases like "fair share" and "playing nice in the sandbox."

In May 2019 a coalition led by Connecticut filed a complaint naming Teva as the lead defendant among 20 companies and 15 individual executives in an alleged conspiracy covering more than 100 generic drugs. The states allege coordinated price increases that in some cases exceeded 1,000%, arranged through industry dinners, "girls nights out", golf outings, calls and texts.

They say executives used phrases like "fair share", "playing nice in the sandbox" and "responsible competitor" to describe an ingrained culture of collusion. A former Teva director of national accounts, Nisha Patel, was among the individual defendants. Teva denies the civil allegations. Other defendants have settled, and states are preparing for the first trial in Hartford, anticipated for late 2026.
